This past summer DuBois Central Catholic student Addison Carlson traveled to Williamsport to take part in the Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week (PFEW) program. She and 1,852 other students attended the award-winning week-long summer educational program. At the camp, student teams work together as the management team of an underperforming manufacturing company. They work competitively against other student teams to see who can most successfully turn their company around. Throughout the competition, the teams learn and practice all aspects of operating a business.
While a student can only attend the camp once, Addison Carlson enjoyed the program so much that she has volunteered to be DuBois Central Catholic’s PFEW Student Ambassador during the 2024-2025 school year. The PFEW Student Ambassador Program is a leadership opportunity for recent PFEW Alumni to grow as young professionals and gain valuable career readiness skills for their future. Moreover, it's the perfect opportunity for them to share the power and value of the PFEW program with prospective students -- to be the authentic voice of PFEW and inspire others to take the incredible PFEW journey.
Addison hopes to help students to excel in leadership through guiding and inspiring others toward achieving common goals. She says, “I will ensure that students are inspired and motivated to take on leadership challenges. A good leader is someone who can communicate effectively, listen to others, and make informed decisions. They need to be adaptable, able to handle challenges, and motivate their team through both successes and setbacks. I want to help and encourage other students to take the route of PFEW. I hope we see you this summer!”
PFEW is a fun, interactive, hands-on program. PFEW helps students develop critical skills in communication, leadership, time management, problem solving and team building all while improving their self-esteem and confidence. The program is offered to all current high school sophomores and juniors throughout Pennsylvania. It’s not too early for interested students to apply to PFEW 2025!
