DCC Class of 2026 Scholarship Awards

DCC's annual scholarship award presentations took place on May 14. Students received awards from a number of community and school organizations.

Before scholarship awards were announced, several students were recognized for their accomplishments outside of school:

For their service as Firefighters – Devin Suplizio and Ellie Gow
EMT – Ellie Gow
Eagle Scout – Hudson Sweet
Jr. Olympics for rifle – Elle Osterman

The following students were recognized for their service to the school and community as DCC Cardinal Ambassadors:

Addison Smith- President
Ava Laubacker- Vice President
Virginia Myers- Chair, Event Officer

Local community organizations then presented the following scholarships:

•    S&T Bank - Brooklynn Baummer- Vogel, presented by Maria Lauver

•    Delores M. Dill Memorial Healthcare Scholarship - Maggie Mauthe

•    DuBois Rotary Club Scholarship - Kairys Martini, Booklynn Baummer- Vogel and Elle Osterman, presented by Gretchen Caruso

•    Daughters of the American Revolution Honorable Mention - Addison Smith, presented by Elaine Knarr
The DAR Good Citizens program and honorable mention contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to all senior class students. The student selected as the school’s DAR Good Citizen must have the qualities of dependability (which includes truthfulness, loyalty, and punctuality); service (which includes cooperation, courtesy, and consideration of others); leadership (which includes personality, self-control, and ability to assume responsibility); and patriotism (which includes unselfish interest in family, school, community, and nation) to an outstanding degree. Senior students are nominated by faculty members and then voted on by the entire senior class.

•    Symmco Scholarship - Hudson Sweet, presented by Matt Gritzer

•    America Red Cross Scholarship - Elle Osterman, presented outside of school

•    Kiwanis Trail Scholarship - Addison Smith, presented by Maria Lauver

•    SAL Scholarship - Hudson Sweet, presented outside of school

DCC in-house scholarships were also presented. These scholarships are awarded annually to DCC students.

•    Shane Edward Horner Memorial Scholarship - Hudson Sweet, presented by family friends Nicole Snyder and Adam Snyder

This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who has maintained a minimum GPA of 2.75, is helpful and compassionate toward others, has participated in a variety of school activities, has been involved in a variety of community activities, and who will be attending a college or university after graduation. This scholarship is in honor and memory of Shane Edward Horner.

•    Dahrouge Family Education Scholarship - Isabelle Cebulskie, presented by Karrie Miller

This scholarship is given to a graduating senior from DuBois Central Catholic who has been accepted at an accredited college or university to pursue a degree in education and who has maintained a ‘B’ average or higher.

•    Dr. Albert and Luanne Varacallo Education Scholarship - Kalyn Johnston, presented by Karrie Miller

The scholarship is given to a graduating senior from DuBois Central Catholic who has been accepted at an accredited college or university to pursue a degree in a Health Care profession and who has maintained a GPA of ‘B’ or higher. This scholarship is in honor and memory of Dr. Albert and  Luanne Varacallo.

•    Ferraro Accounting Scholarship - Ava Laubacker, presented by Karrie Miller

A graduating senior who demonstrates a sincere interest in the profession of Accounting is awarded the Ferraro Accounting Scholarship each year.  Preference is given to those who have been accepted at a Catholic university or college or Penn State University, who have worked to help pay for their education or plan to during college, who has performed community service, and who has graduated from Dale Carnegie.

•    Francis J. Mehall Engineering Scholarship - Christian Adair, presented by Mehall family 

Consideration for this scholarship is given to a graduating senior who has been accepted to study mechanic, electrical, industrial, or a form of process engineering through an associate or undergraduate degree and who has maintained a ‘B’ average or better. This scholarship is in honor and memory of Francis J. Mehall.

•    George P. Gasbarre Engineering Scholarship - Christian Adair, presented by Karrie Miller

Consideration for this scholarship is given to a graduating senior who has been accepted to study mechanic, electrical, industrial, or a form of process engineering through as associate or undergraduate degree and who has maintained a ‘B’ average or better. This scholarship is in honor and memory of George P. Gasbarre.

•    Caramela Charitable Trust Scholarship - Isabelle Cebulskie, presented by Karrie Miller

This scholarship was created to award students who plan to pursue a career in either teaching or the arts.  

•    Mary Ann Caracciola Memorial Scholarship - Elli Gow, presented by Karrie Miller

The award is given to a graduating senior from DuBois Central Catholic who has been accepted to an accredited college or university, maintaining a ‘B’ average or higher, not related to the donor, and has met one or more of the following: pursuing a Performing Arts career in Music, Theater, or Dance; pursuing a degree in Education; and demonstrating Financial Need. This scholarship is in honor of Mary Ann.

•    Stanley J. and Yolanda M. Sekula Memorial Scholarship - Addison Carlson, presented by Karrie Miller

Stanley J. and Yolanda M. Sekula were born in DuBois, Pennsylvania.  Throughout grade school and high school Mr. Sekula demonstrated a remarkable talent for graphic arts, hand lettering, and artistic creativity. Mrs. Sekula had a keen sense of business affairs. Together they founded the Sekula Sign Cooperation in 1946. The Cooperation has grown from hand painted signs and lettering, to spectacular neon and acrylic signs installed throughout the United States. The award is presented to a graduating senior from DuBois Central Catholic who has been accepted at an accredited college, university, or technical school to study Arts, Graphic Arts, Architecture, or Business Administration through an undergraduate degree.  Applicants should be students in good standing with a GPA of ‘B’ or higher for grades 9-12.
