Revelation the angel took me in spirit to a great high mountain and showed me the Holy City Jerusalem coming down out of Heaven from God gleamed with the Splendor of God its Radiance was like that of a precious stone like Jasper clear as Crystal it had a massive high wall with 12 gates where 12 Angels were stationed and on which names were inscribed cribed the names of the 12 tribes of the Israelites there were 3 Gates Facing East 3 North 3 South and 3 West the wall of the city had 12 courses of stones as its foundation on which were inscribed the 12 names of the 12 Apostles of the Lamb I saw no temple in the city for its Temple is the Lord God Almighty and the lamb the city had no need of sun or moon to show on it for the glory of God gave it light and its lamp was the lamb the word of the Lord all day all day all day day all day all day hallelujah hallelujah all day all day hallelujah hallelujah music to the Lord sound the trumpet sounded clear sounded for the world to hear come joyful music to the Hallelujah hallelu Hallelujah hallelu the Lord be with you a reading from the holy Gospel according to John Jesus said to his disciples whoever loves me will keep my word and my father will love him and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him whoever does not love me does not keep my words yet the word you hear is not mine but that of the father who sent me I have told you this while I am with you The Advocate the Holy Spirit whom the father will send in my name will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you I leave with you my peace I give to you not as the world gives do I give it to you do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid you heard me tell you I am going away and I will come back to you if you loved me you would Rejoice that I am going to the father for the father is greater than I and now I have told you this before it happened so that when it happens you may believe the gospel of the Lord on this Memorial Day Weekend I'd like for all of us if we could say 1 Hail Mary together for the countless lives who have been sacrificed for our nation and for families throughout our country who have suffered the loss of someone serving our nation so please join me Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death amen thank you it is a baloria mass so this homily will be about graduation hopefully for all of us here not just our graduates but we can be reminded of our graduation or for our youngsters here who are preparing for it that you might be prepared with a new Focus graduation I had the opportunity this weekend to be at our priesthood ordination in Eerie and I met many of you would know him Bishop Ed Losee I had time to spend with him he was father Ed here at dubow Central years ago but he reminded me of quote he had shared with me when I first entered the Seminary and he wanted me to meditate and think about this quote my first year in the Seminary and many of you know this quote a ship is safe in the harbor but that is not what ships are built for a ship is safe in the harbor but that is not what ships are built for I'm looking at many parents and grandparents and I know I know today is Bittersweet I know it's tough because your child has been safe in the harbor of your home and in the harbor of this school but as you know your child is not built to stay here your child is built for the Open Seas your child is built for bigger waves your child is built for another Shoreline for now it's a quote not just for our students but for our parents today I know it's tough but a ship is not built for the harbor it's built for the Open Seas but to our graduates here where are you heading what are the challenges is going to be as you go out I think you're prepared I know the administration The Faculty MSR Kaza Father John mall theer we believe you're prepared to head out to larger Waters bigger waves even the storms that quote though is always spoken to me the last few years I have a tendency I doubt I'm the only person in the auditorium like this I like comfort I like the harbor I like the peaceful Bay but I've come to learn that I've experienced the greatest joys in life when I've set out on Mission and adventure when I've got to cities that overwhelmed me when I spent months in countries where I was just trying to figure out the language I found that I experienced the greatest Joys when I left the harbor and I share that with our graduates today you haven't experienced the greatest joys of your life yet you will encounter greater moments in Greater joys but I just want to encourage you and challenge you be open to leaving the harbor you're built for much more the quote is not just the secular quote it's it actually deals with Jesus how often he'd walk along the shoreline and he first met Peter and Andrew and he said follow me later on then he says to them throw out into the deep they were fishermen he says throw out into the deep he didn't say fish in the shallows he said go into the middle of the sea and throw out into the deep knowing full well that's where the storms are sure that's where the greatest waves are but Jesus knew that Peter and Andrew and all the apostles were built for more they were not built for Comfort or safety they were built for adventure I think now of St John Paul II my favorite saint who endured the horrific World War II in Poland he studied in seminary underground in secret so the Communists wouldn't know about him he watched as his family and his friends many of them died but later on in life as Pope he said these words like with Christ is a wonderful Adventure because he knew when he left the harbor and he went out he'd encountered Jesus Christ all the more I'm echoing this again and again you will encounter a greater Adventure and you're going to encounter Jesus in a whole new way and even a more personal way as you move forward I said though I will preach a bit about graduation because it's a great message what's the word graduation even mean and it comes from the Latin word gradus which just means step that's why we have first grade second grade all the way through 12th grade each grade is just the first step the Second Step the third step fourth grade the fourth step and you're now in finishing 12th grade it's been an adventure the whole time but what do I do all the time what does The Sinner do me I'm always fearful what will that next step be like what if I'm not prepared for it what if it's not as good as the steps behind me what if I fail what if my fear and anxiety Takes Over Me again what if I fail with that next step my guess is a few you the last few months have had moments where you've asked yourself am I ready for the next step graduation means a step it is very normal to stop in your tracks in question yourself but we always have to remember as Christians when Jesus says follow me he already took the step and he's looking at us from this side saying follow we can simply follow in his footprints we go right to him we never take a step on our own when I first entered the Seminary and I heard Bishop Losi tell me meditate on that quote a is safe in the harbor but that's not what ships are built for I thought I had to leave the harbor on my own I thought I'd set out on that sailboat on my own little did I know the people I would meet along the way little did I know that I'd make every step with other people people far more gifted than I am you're not making this step on your own today Jesus number 1 is said follow me your family is going to be with you with this step you'll meet new friends you'll meet new people this journey is not on your own and there's just a last thing I want to share today all of you already know this but there's a reason why Jesus said it more than any other line in Scripture Jesus repeatedly would say Be not Afraid be not afraid be not afraid I want to translate that in graduation language be not afraid to take this step be not afraid to graduate be not afraid to see what's on the other side of the door be not afraid to see what's on the other side of the horizon be not afraid to see what's Around the Riverbend be not afraid of what's ahead of you but why does Jesus say it so much because there's people like me who love comfort and love the harbor there's people like me who are fearful of the storms that are ahead fearful of the waves fearful of what it might be to leave the shore for a moment but I have heard Jesus say it many times and he will say it to you throughout the rest of your life be not afraid and on this graduation day may you joyfully and confidently take the step there's a great life ahead of you May someday you and I say together the same words of Pope St John Paul II life with Christ is a wonderful Adventure I believe in 1 God the Father Almighty maker of of Heaven and Earth of all things visible and invisible I believe in 1 Lord Jesus Christ the only begotten Son of God born of the father before all ages God from God light from light true God from true God begotten not made consubstantial with the father through him all things were made for us men and for our Salvation he came down from heaven and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the virgin Mary and became man for our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate he suffered death and was buried and rose again on the third day in accordance with the scriptures he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end I believe in the Holy Spirit the Lord The Giver of Life who proceeds from the father and the son with the father and the son is adored and glorified who has spoken through the prophets I believe in 1 Holy Catholic and Apostolic church I confess 1 baptism for the Forgiveness of sins and I look forward to to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come amen amen and sisters upon them like the dwall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the Chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the Chalice of My Blood the blood of the new and eternal Covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the Forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith this bread and drink this cup Proclaim your until you come again therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and Resurrection we offer you Lord the bread of life and the Chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that
