Extra-Curricular Activities

Below is a listing of the many clubs and organizations available for students of DuBois Central Catholic. These are intended to build-up our students and provide them with opportunities to grow in faith, leadership and other skills and abilities.

In addition to these clubs and organizations for junior and senior high school students, participation in many special activities is also available to them. There are also many activities for our elementary school students that promote learning, responsibility and fun. Please click here to view a list of events and activities for students.

Campus Ministry (High School)

High School students may join Campus Ministry which involves volunteering for a variety of ministry events and activities. For more information, please contact Becky Dutra. Activities Include:

Catholic Schools Week Activities
Class Retreats
Induction of Student Eucharistic Ministers
New Student Luncheon
Pro-Life week activities
Special Olympics

Civil War Club (Middle School)

Involvement in this club is open to all students in 7th and 8th grades. For more information, contact Tara Kramer. Activities Include:

Preparation and planning for a Civil War Day encampment with authentic Civil War re-enactors
Weekly planning meetings
Civil War period clothing and holiday tradition
Organize a visit and presentation
Guide the rest of student body through Civil War Day

Journalism (Middle & High School)

Involvement in this organization is open to all middle and high school students. (MS & HS are separate clubs.)
Activities include:

Student newsletter
Yearbook
Programs for school theatrical productions
Local newspaper photo contributions
Work with Jostens for yearbook resources and professional service

Math Competition (High School)

Involvement in this organization is by invitation from the club advisor – based on Math classes taken as well as academic standing in Mathematics. Activities Include:

Competition at Clarion University annually

Math Options (Middle School)

Involvement in this event is open to 7th grade female students. Activities include:

Students go to Penn State to explore math and science based careers. (Hosted by local business professionals.)

Mock Trial (High School)

Involvement in this organization is by audition and selection of the club advisor. This organization is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
Activities Include:

Preparation of a case used for competition
Regional Mock Trial Competitions
Possibility of advancement to State Competitions
Attend an annual Mock Trial competition at University of Pittsburgh

National Honor Society (High School)

Involvement in this organization is open to high school students based on academic eligibility and selection process documented in the NHS Policy Manual. Click here for more information.
Activities Include: Service to the community.

National Junior Honor Society (Middle School)

Involvement in this organization is open to middle school students based on academic eligibility and selection process documented in the NJHS Policy Manual.
Activities Include: Service to the community.

Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) (Middle & High School)

Involvement in this organization is open to all students in 7th through 12th grades however Junior and Senior high have separate clubs. Activities Include:

Completion of project using the scientific method
Presentation of project via PowerPoint
Regional competition at Penn State – Altoona
State competition at Penn State – University Park
Annual scholarship opportunity

Prom Committee (High School)

Juniors who wish to plan the theme, decorations, and activities of the prom meet during the year to make the event a success.

Rotary Interact (High School)

A service club that is sponsored by local businesses. For more information, contact Gretchen Caruso.

Scholastic Challenge (Middle & High School)

Involvement in this organization is open to all middle and high school students and is based on auditions and academic ability. (HS and MS have separate teams.) For more information, contact Renee Gressler (Middle School) or Andy Rice (High School.) Activities include:

Annual competition at Penn State Dubois

Student Council (Middle & High School)

Involvement in this organization is open to all high school students (middle school and high school are separate clubs.) Members are elected by the student body. For more information, contact Jim Murphy (Middle School) or contact Andy Rice(High School.)

High School Student Council

Activities Include:

Gathers, writes and broadcasts daily morning announcements
Sponsors a variety of spirit activities to support student teams and clubs
Sponsors MS/HS Spirit Week
Sponsors MS/HS United Way Day Activity
Sponsors Sadie Hawkins Dance, Cardinal Ball, Homecoming Dance, as well as other misc. dances
Sponsors Homecoming Ceremony
Conducts elections for Student Government and for Class Officers
Organizes Big Brothers/Big Sisters for Senior-6th grade matches

Middle School Student Council

Activities Include:

Meet weekly to create harmony and improve student life in the school
Responsible for some recruitment efforts for the school
Host 8th grade move-up day (prep elementary for transition)
Learn parliamentary procedure (communicating in a structured manner)
Sponsor student-teacher tribute during Catholic Schools week
Conduct various spirit activities in middle school
Perform service to school

Student Government – Class Officers (Middle & High School)

Involvement in this organization is open to all middle school and high school students. (middle school and high school are separate clubs.) For more information, contact Jim Murphy (Middle School) or contact Kate Kunkle (High School.) Activities Include:

9th grade – sponsors the Post-Baccalaureate Reception for seniors and guests
10th grade – sponsors Senior Farewell Dance
11th grade – sponsors the Annual Spaghetti Dinner and Prom
12th grade – sponsors Senior Class Play

Theater (Middle & High School)

Involvement in this organization is open to all Seniors for the Senior Class Play and to all middle and high school students for the spring musical.
Activities Include:

Fall Senior Class Play
Spring Musical Production
Drama class (usually reserved for seniors) – present school assemblies and productions
Middle School Drama
MS Advent Celebration
Festival of the Performing Arts
6th grade Passion Play

Trivia Club (High School)

Students challenge each other in trivia contests. For more information, contact Andy Rice.

Trout in the Classroom (Middle School)

This activity is funded by a grant through Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.
Activities Include:

Raising trout from eggs in the classroom
Stresses the importance of healthy water quality to the environment
