LATIN STUDENTS SAY CARPE DIEM
Students enrolled in Latin this year at DuBois Central Catholic are truly ‘seizing the day’ to study a language that will improve their vocabulary for standardized testing and reinforce their sentence structure in writing. A sophomore at DCC takes her turn at the smartboard as she translates the next sentence in the Gospel of John (1:6-10) while instructor Irene Gankosky gives encouragement. Gankosky explains, “Studying Latin grammar teaches students to think about language in a different way…it develops skills that apply to all learning while increasing students’ understanding of language structure through grammar, reading and vocabulary development.”
