31st Annual Father Gregory Leopold 8th Grade Girls’ B-Ball Tourney


October 20 & 21 at DuBois Central Catholic

The Athletic Department of DuBois Central Catholic has announced the teams competing in the 31st Annual Father Gregory Leopold 8th Grade Girls’ Basketball Tournament, taking place in the “House of Noise” on Friday, October 20, and Saturday, October 21.  Each participating team is guaranteed three games.

Participating teams are the Lady Raiders of Brookville, Lady Chucks of Punxsutawney, Lady Owls of Bradford, Lady Bull Dogs of Red Bank Valley, Lady Beavers of DuBois, Lady Tide of Curwensville, Saint Francis of Clearfield, and the host Lady Cardinals.

The tourney opens Friday with games at 4 p.m., with St. Francis of Clearfield playing the Lady Cardinals; at 5:15 p.m.,  the Lady Raiders of Brookville play the Lady Tide of Curwensville; and at 6:30 p.m., the Lady Beavers of DuBois meet the Lady Chucks of Punxy.  Play resumes Saturday morning at 9 a.m with the Lady Owls of Bradford playing the Lady Bull Dogs of Redbank Valley.

Games will run throughout the day on Saturday, culminating with the Championship game at 7 p.m. Team trophies for the top three places will be given at the conclusion of the championship game.

“We are proud of the long-standing tradition of high quality play and players participating in this yearly tournament,” says DCC Athletic Director, Ricky Martini.

The tournament is organized by the DCC Athletic Department with the support of the parents of players. Teams entering the tourney come from a 70 mile radius of DuBois.

The tourney is hosted each fall in memory of the late Reverend Father Gregory Leopold, a teacher and avid supporter of student athletics at DuBois Central prior to his death in an automobile accident in 1984.

The tournament is open to the public. Activities will include a concession stand. There will be Day Passes and Weekend Passes sold at the door.
