7th Grade Science Fair Awards Announced

DuBois Central Catholic’s 7th Grade held its Annual Science Fair recently in the school’s gymnasium. Each student prepared a fifteen minute presentation of a scientific investigation along with a display board. Students were judged on how well they applied the Five Steps of the Scientific Method, according to middle school science teacher Renee Gressler.

Best of Show medallions were presented to the projects receiving the highest number of points. Best of Show First Prize Gold Medallion was presented to Jacob Baird for his project entitled, ”What factors determine how long an iPhone battery lasts?” Second Place Best of Show Silver Medallion was presented to Colin Micknis for his project, “Does the sugar content of soda increase its density?” There was a tie for Third Place Best of Show Bronze Medallions: Maria Tomasko for her project, “Can homemade pH paper work as effectively as manufactured pH paper?” and Sara Werner with her project, “What detergent is best for getting various stains out of clothes?”

Seventh grade projects receiving First Awards were done by Madison Hoyt, Savannah Morelli, Aaron Nasuti, Isaac Pifer, Maria Tomasko, Sophia Ginther, Megan Ochs, Alec Srock, Jacob Baird, Colin Micknis, Sara Werner, Abby Suplizio, Peyton Maurer, and Caleb Bruno

Seventh grade projects receiving Second Awards were done by Emma Suplizio, Hayes Cooper, Matthew Elias, Owen Helm, Ian Boland, Taven Lukehart, Jack Adair, and Hosanna Hannah.

Seventh grade projects receiving Third Awards were done Abby Erickson and Abby Chestnut.

Judges for this year’s Science Fair were the following: Bernie Pitrone, Pharmacist; Tom Tarcson, retired, PA Dept. of Environmental Protection; Wendy States, Pharmacist; Brad Pifer, Director of Facilities and Maintenance, DCC; Ron Chollock, retired, Brockway Glass; Debora Kruise, Director of Admissions and Marketing, DCC; Amy Way, Lock Haven University, Clearfield Campus; Mandi Palumbo, Pharmacist; Chris Felix, Resource Enrichment Instructor, DCC; and Nicole Donnick, Clarion University, student teacher.

Central Catholic students assisting the day of judging were the following: Riley Meyers, Brenna Engle, Jonathan Dixon, Austen Cogley, Eriq Donahue, Andre Hanes, Peter Downer, Zane Felix, Ethan Stoddard, Anthony Depello, Pedar Garred, Rebecca Liddle, Gabby Caruso, Hannah Miller, Rachel Salada, Madison Nasuti, Sabrina Spencer and Brooke Gornati. Coordinator of the Science Fair and Floor Manager was Donna Chollock, Science Department Chairperson.
