String Art Project in Middle School Math

STRING ART REINFORCES MATH CONCEPTS

Students in Mrs. Starleen Young’s 7th grade Problem Solving Course used their math knowledge as well as their creativity to produce unique line-design geometric patterns.  The patterns were done on 12 inch blocks of wood using colored string, nails, hammer and paints.  According to Young, “Students are amazed how connecting points in various ways creates the illusion of a curved design with only line segments.”   Students were happy to show off their unique designs.
