3D Graphing of Planes…A Unique Approach!

Graphing of Coordinate Planes…Hands-On Math Activity

Freshmen Algebra II Honors students of Mrs. Alena Park (standing) at DuBois Central Catholic High School recently tackled creating 3D coordinate planes as an exercise to see how 3D coordinate points are plotted.   Park explains, “I wanted students to grasp the concept of 3D graphing in a comprehendible way. By first creating the 3D planes by hand, the students got to see how two dimensional (2D) planes are converted to 3D.  Using pipe cleaners ‘poked’ through the bottom plane, students could see visually a ‘height’ that converted the 2D look into 3D.”
