CHESS HELPS MATH AT DCC MIDDLE SCHOOL
Math students of Starleen Young practice chess as a way to help them think objectively and plan ahead, both qualities needed in chess, math, and problem solving. Young stops to advise one student as she ponders her next move against her competitor. In the background, several teams of students tackle their own chess games! According to Young, all DCC 6th graders are taught chess and will participate in a Spring tournament at the end of the school year. What a cool way to improve standardized math scores!
