The Athletic Department of DuBois Central Catholic has announced the teams competing in the 30th Annual Father Gregory Leopold 8th Grade Girls’ Basketball Tournament, taking place in the “House of Noise” on Friday, October 21, and Saturday, October 22. Each team is guaranteed three games.
Participating teams are the Lady Raiders of Brookville, Lady Chucks of Punxsutawney, Lady Owls of Bradford, Lady Elkers of Ridgway, Lady Beavers of DuBois, Our Lady of Victory of State College, Lady Tide of Curwensville, and the host Lady Cardinals.
The tourney opens Friday at 4 p.m. with Curwensville playing tourney host DCC. At 5:15 p.m., Brookville goes up against DuBois. At 6:30 p.m. Punxsutawney meets Ridgway. Play resumes Saturday morning with Bradford playing OLV of State College.
Games will run throughout the day on Saturday, culminating with the Championship game at 7 p.m. Team trophies for the top three places will be given at the conclusion of the championship game.
“There is a tradition of a high quality of play and caliber of players participating in this yearly tournament,” says DCC Athletic Director, Ricky Martini.
The tournament is organized by the DCC Athletic Department with the support of the Cardinal Club and parents of players. Teams entering the tourney come from a 70 mile radius of DuBois.
The tourney is hosted each fall in memory of the late Reverend Father Gregory Leopold, a teacher and avid supporter of student athletics at DuBois Central prior to his death in an automobile accident in 1984.
The tournament is open to the public. Activities will include a concession stand. There will be Day Passes and Weekend Passes sold at the door.
