Author John Schlimm, a Harvard-trained educator, artist, businessman, and award-winning author of seventeen books will be speaking to students in the art room at DCC about his newest book, a memoir titled FIVE YEARS IN HEAVEN: The Unlikely Friendship That Answered Life’s Greatest Questions, which details John’s five-year friendship with an 87-year-old nun and artist named Sister Augustine, who changed his life forever. The students have been reading this book in their Christ in Art Class. The book was recently honored as a recipient of the 2016 Christopher Award in the “Books for Adults” category.
According to Mrs. Caitlin Smith, students have been reading and reflecting on many of the important questions brought up in the book, diving into deeper issues about life, love, faith, and friendship. On Tuesday, May 31st, students will have the unique opportunity to meet and discuss with John Schlimm and reflect on these important issues. Smith adds, “Students are looking forward to being able to talk one on one with this author about his own experiences.”
Special thanks to DCC art teacher, Mrs. Caitlin Smith, for making this connection with the author to visit her students on May 31.
