DuBois Central Catholic’s 55th Commencement Exercises will take place the weekend of June 4 and 5. A Baccalaureate Mass for the 30 graduates, their families and friends, will take place Saturday evening, June 4, at 6 p.m. in the auditorium. Graduation ceremonies will commence at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 5 in the gym.
Principal Dawn Bressler says, “The Class of 2016 is an awesome group of students that show Pride, Passion and Purpose with everything: academics, theater, creativity, leadership and athleticism. The time has finally come for them to spread their wings and fly, and we have planted a faith-based seed for them to grow and shine as adults and wish them the best. They will be missed since they have truly left their mark on DuBois Central Catholic.”
Senior Class Advisor Carol Korthaus adds, “The Class of 2016 demonstrates everything that Central Catholic is. They are intelligent, motivated, caring, faith-filled and full of enthusiasm for everything they have done in their 18 years …and everything they will do in the future. It has been a joy working with them.”
Graduation Weekend 2016 begins with a mass Saturday evening with Reverend Father Edward Walk, Assistant Administrator, presiding along with Msgr. Charles Kaza, President of the school system, and surrounding area priests and pastors.
A reception for the graduates, their families, and friends will follow the liturgy, hosted by members of the current Freshmen Class.
Valedictorian of the Class of 2016 at DuBois Central Catholic High School is Michael Zaffuto, son of Samuel and Angela Zaffuto of Sykesville. Salutatorian of the Class of 2016 at DCC is Cullen Engle, son of Daniel and Nancy Engle of Reynoldsville.
Members of the administration will present the diplomas and announce the graduates along with their future plans. According to tradition, graduates who have distinguished themselves in various academic areas will be awarded gold honor plaques of excellence. Other established scholarships awarded each year to Central’s graduating seniors will also be announced.
The 2016 class officers are Michael Zaffuto, President; Tessa Sayers, Vice-President; Abigail Martini, Secretary; and Jacob Miknis, Treasurer. The 2016 Student Council leaders are Nicholas Szczerba, President, and Joseph Varischetti, Vice-President.
The current analysis of the Class of 2016 finds 97% attending college and 3% entering the military.
