National Honor Society Hosts Annual ‘Spring Honors Banquet’

DuBois Central Catholic High School recently hosted its annual Academic Honors Banquet and National Honor Society Induction Ceremony. The evening began with a catered dinner in the school cafeteria.  Following dinner, the awards ceremony opened in the auditorium with the singing of the National Anthem by Kathryn Ellenberger, Cullen Engle, Markus Peterson, and Michael Zaffuto.

Opening remarks were made by NHS President, Michael Zaffuto and the presentation of academic honor awards were by Mrs. Angela Edwards (NHS Advisor), Mrs. Kate Kunkle (Academic Dean) and Mrs. Dawn Bressler (Principal).

The Bausch and Laumb science award was presented by Mrs. Donna Chollock to Trisha Gupta and the George Eastman Young Leaders Award was presented to Rebecca Pifer.  The NHS scholarship was awarded to Abigail Martini.

 Current NHS members who are seniors were introduced individually listing their most recent accomplishments and future plans.  Underclass NHS members then were called by name to join the seniors on the stage.   Mrs. Kate Kunkle, Academic Dean of Curriculum, gave the student address.

The name of each new NHS member was announced and then welcomed onto the stage by current members.    According to NHS advisor, Mrs. Angela Edwards, the chapter’s traditional ceremonial words and candle lighting took place.

The evening concluded with benediction by Reverend Fr. Edward Walk. The singing of the Alma Mater was led by Katie Ellenberger and Rebecca Pifer, accompanied by Michael Zaffuto on the piano….and students exited the stage receiving a yellow rose to deliver to a person who has touched their lives.

Edwards explains, “The acceptance into the National Honor Society is a great accomplishment as well as a great honor, and we are proud to announce publicly the newly inducted members of DCC’s Chapter of the National Honor Society.” 

New inductees include Jackson Frank, Elizabeth Gankosky, Carolyn Sette, Alex Adamski, Meghan Graeca, John Swalligan, Madison Barnett, Rebecca Liddle, Jessica Tomasko, Caitlin Drahushak, Hanna Miller, Abigail Zeitler, Brenna Engle, and Madison Nasuti.
