GUEST SPEAKERS PROVE THE ROLE OF SCIENCE
Barry Mayes, (front), an employee of the North Central Regional Planning and Development Commission, shares his work experiences and knowledge of environmental science with students at DuBois Central Catholic High School. Fellow presenter is Sam Gregory (back), a self-employed consultant and current member of the State Transportation Innovations Council, who awaits his turn.
Students learned about the important role science plays in the work of de-icing roads in Pennsylvania using chlorides and other chemicals, not an easy task due to many variables.
According to DCC science teacher, Jenn Graeca, hearing about the different salt combinations used and the long-reaching effects on the environment provided a fresh look at how important science is and the types of careers that rely heavily on both a scientific and mathematical back ground.
