Five DuBois Central Catholic teachers accepted the challenge of participating in the Pittsburgh Mudderella to benefit victims of violence. Their team was named appropriately Dirt Covered Cardinals, to reflect the school’s DCC and mascot. Team members were Jenn Graeca, Renee Burley, Dawn Bressler, Deidre Minns, and Shannon Dinsmore.
The Pittsburgh event raised funds for the non-profit Futures without Violence, an organization whose goal is to prevent and end domestic violence, aid the development of programs to help support survivors of domestic violence and their families, provide a safe haven for those affected, and offer education for the children exposed to violence on how healthy relationships can be achieved.
Spearheaded last school year by Secondary Principal, Dawn Bressler, the team finished the five mile obstacle course in 3 ½ hours, holding on to each other as the Dirt Covered Cardinals crossed the finish line together. According to Bressler, personal perseverance and team determination made the day an awesome experience never to be forgotten.
