DCC seniors have taken ownership of Central’s inaugural student-run online news source, according to in-house advisor, Mrs. Lisa Blasdell. The goal of this daily project is to transmit the latest in school news, sports, activities and student life at www.cardinalchatter.com.
Spearheading the effort is editor Tessa Sayers, who began the initial planning of this project in the summer with Blasdell. Sayers’ cohorts include fellow seniors Tom Matts and Markus Peterson. Adding photos, sports details, and even video to the site is the ultimate student goal, one the staff feels is definitely attainable.
According to Blasdell, the students are anxious to work on their journalistic skills and provide a student-focused view of the news and activities at DCC. Writing skills and technology skills merge to create this student-run opportunity.
Blasdell adds, “This online newspaper’s main focus is on high school, but our hope is to also cover major stories in both the middle and elementary schools.
Sayers concludes, “The daily updates of our site should make it quite popular with not only students but also staff and parents.”
Headmaster Mike Armanini says, “Another great addition for DCC using our leading-edge technology to keep in contact with our students and families but equally important keeping our alumni abreast of school activities in real time.”
