28th ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS

The 28th Annual Festival of the Arts will take place on Sunday, May 17, 2015, starting at 1 p.m. in the auditorium of DuBois Central Catholic. This yearly event features both middle school and high school students, giving them yet another opportunity to showcase their many talents before the school year ends.

Planned are both choral and instrumental performances plus various student acts. Tryouts were under the direction of festival organizer, Jodi Stewart, who adds, “A variety of talent exists from 6th through 12th grade at Central with the number of this year’s participants fairly evenly divided among the grade levels.”

Selected art work by DCC students, under the direction of Caitlin Smith, will be on display in the secondary foyer.   Stewart adds, “Poetry entries have been received from the students of Mary Ann Piccirillo and Heather Barber.”

Spanish students, under the direction of Tara Deemer, have made piñatas to be included in this year’s art exhibit. And Starleen Young, math department, will have the string art projects from several of her middle school math students on display.

DuBois Central Catholic’s Middle School Drama Club’s spring performance will conclude the festival. Under the direction of Mrs. Jodi Stewart, the students will present “Yearbook” by Steven Fendrich. Stewart explains, “It is a play that tells the story of four students perusing their school yearbooks and then reminiscing about their many experiences during the school year.

Cast members include the following 6th graders: Natasha Kunselman, Michaela Armanini, Cade Peck, JP Piccirillo, Easton Bacha, Holly Deemer, and Dominic Hall. The seventh grade cast members include Bryce Micknis, Daniel Cooley, Bradley Huey, and Alex Ochs.   Four 8th graders are cast members: Lillian Lee, Ashley Mayes, Emma Cooper, and Makenzie Park.  Two cameo appearances, by Tess Stewart and 8th grader Courteney DeHaven, are planned as well.

The festival is open to the public and is free of charge. Festival-goers are asked to use the secondary portico of the school when entering the event.
